The Kenya Open Golf Championship is East and Central Africa’s premier annual golf event. First played in 1967 at the Muthaiga Golf Club, the tournament has transformed over time to attain a European Tour status having first attained a European Challenge Tour status in 1991.
Over the course of its existence, the Kenya Open Golf Championship has attracted some of the world’s top golfers; making it an integral part of the growth of global golf superstars.
Some of the renowned global golf stars that have played at won at the Kenya Open Golf Championship include some of Europe’s biggest Ryder Cup stars like Seve Ballesteros, Ian Woosnam, Ken Brown and Christy O’Connor Jr, as well as future Masters champion Trevor Immelman.
The most successful player being England’s Maurice Bembridge, who recorded three victories between 1968 and 1979. The Kenya Open continues to grow with each passing event.
